hey,

probably a simple answer to this one but its drivin me buts....

I have a casio wk-1630 and I wanted to plug it into the computer to do some tracking...So I went and bought the interface for my sound card-I hooked it up to the keyboard and can't figure out why it doesn't work....So, let me ask a couple of questions cuz I'm new to this...

1. Should the sound come automatically through my speakers or do I have to have vegas running...

2. How do I know if it is the computer or the keyboard I should be focusing the trouble-shooting on..and

3. I am so fuckin frustrated over this shit

aight...w/b soon

Thanks

ooh and don't post a link either

If it's an audio signal from the keyboard, no, you probably don't have to have an application running, as long as the Line In is enabled for Playback (the first, non-buried window in the Windows mixer.)

If it's MIDI and you are trying to play the MIDI sounds on your soundcard (if there are any), yes, you need to have an application open to route the MIDI data to the onboard synth.

MIDI is not audio. You still need to hook up the audio outs on your keyboard to hear anything.

Hey Tex,

Not sure I'm clear on this....I hooked up the Midi cables in and out to the interface which plugs into my sound card.......

Are you saying I still gotta plug in something else...

The only slot left open on the keyboard is the headphones output?

That will be your only audio output on that type of keyboard........use it

Just to add to that.
If your using a soundblaster or a card that has built in soundfonts or instruments, you can instruct your program to access these instruments and trigger them via your keyboard, in this case you will hear these sounds from your soundblaster output. Or you can record a sequence in midi with your keyboard and instruct your program to output the midi data to your keyboard in which case your keyboard will play the sounds. If you want to record the audio from your keyboard, tie the headphone jack to your soundcards input and record it. Basically forming a loop.
Do you follow me ???
