Midi problems

I am attempting to record some electronic drums in midi through my soundblaster live. For some reason in my program it will not record. I have checked everything including connections and make sure the drum machine is sending midi. However, it is not recording in midi. Is this a port issue or is this more likely just a problem with my soundcard
