MIDI player in computer to run drum machine ?

Can I use my 16 track MIDI player/editor to strip midi files down to the drums and use that to run my Boss DR-770 ? I have the joystick port/midi splitter thingy.
Would it be faster to just spend the time to program the DR770?

Im not familiar with the DR-770 but all drums normally play through ch.10. If your boss has the capability to recieve and transmit from all 16 chls. you can setup 16 tracks with different drum parts on each track.
