Hi, I'm considering buying a midi patchbay for my live rig. Are you familiar with the roland a880? What are it's features? I have an oportunity to get one but I don't know whether It will do what I want. Is it as good as the JL Cooper MSB+ or the DMC MX-8?

Another one to add to your list is the 360 Systems Midi Patcher, which is an 8x8 midi patchbay too.

The main difference between these units is how much processing you need done, and how many memory slots you need for presets. I think the Roland is more of just a simple patchbay than the JL Cooper and DMC units. The 360 Systems doesn't do heavy processing either, but it will send independent program changes to each output.

Looks like the roland isn't what I want then.

I want a patchbay that I can send one patch change from my master keyboard and it will then send patch changes to all modules and route my 2 controllers to them however I please.

Which one would you recommend?
I want as much processing as possible for as little money :)
I don't need 8x8 - 4x4 would do.

Posting in more that one forum is called 'crossposting' and it won't get your question answered any faster or more completely.

I'd probably go with the DMC MX-8. If you go with the JL Cooper, try to find the MSB+ V.2, not the original. As I remember, there were problems with the original. I think the DMC MX-8 will merge two inputs, but I'm not 100% sure of that. The 360 Systems won't merge, so if you need that feature you would need to get something else or also purchase a merge box.

I have an MSB+ Rev2. They don't make them anymore, but if you decide to get a used one, I have one important word of advice: don't get one unless it comes with a manual! It is impossible to figure out without one. Its not hard to use, but its not intuitive.
