Hi all,
am after some help. I have just installed a mini cable with a USB to my yamaha digital piano, I have set the mini in and midi out devices to the USB Audio device too. I have opened Cubase sx and opened a midi track to record, the levels are showing sound is going in but i can not hear anything and can only hear the piano from its own speakers.
How can i hear what im recording?
Any help much appreciated?!?!

Midi is not audio, its all data thats used to trigger notes, sent the midi back to your piano then take a cable from the audio out and put that into your computer :) problem solved

Thank you!
That makes a lot of sense.
So at the min i have a cable running from piano out to midi in to USB.
What other cable do i need?? The items on the box available are;

Midi Out to USB
or
Digital out to USB?

Midi out back to the midi in of your sound module.

What soundcard or MIDI interface are you using?

Sounds like you need a soundcard.

MIDI is just a digital piano roll. You only hear playback through the keyboard speakers because it sounds like that's the extent of your setup. To hear your keyboard back through monitors you would need to patch an AUDIO cable from the keyboard into your monitor system, whatever that is.

No, you said "piano out to midi in to USB"

You have to go the other way as well, USB midi out to piano midi in.

Thanks for all your help, I needed another midi cable as suggested.
I can hear what I'm playing now but it's a little delayed?
Also am not convinced I have the midi's in the right way?
I have my USB in my computer, it's midi that says 'out' on it is in my edirol sound module in the 'in'
And
The 'in' midi in the 'out' of my keyboard ......... Is that the right way?

Really appreciate all your help, is working fine now and am so pleased with it!!
