Midi midi midi help!!!

alright so im trying to hook up my keyboard synthesizer to my laptop through midi, the cakewalk help said that i need too hook it up into my mic input, which is alright cause i have a usb mic, but the thing now is.. its not connecting, its connected to the the headphone/output jack on the back of my synthesizer but its not reading.. any help.. anyone?

What kind of keyboard synth are you using???

Does it have MIDI over USB capabilities???

If not, you need to use the MIDI in and out jacks on the keyboard and route those to a little convertor box that attaches to the laptop via USB.

MIDI only transmits data messages--- which notes to turn on and off and when, pitch and mod wheel positions, velocity, aftertouch, which instrument to play, etc.

To hear the audio from the keyboard synth you need to plug the audio output either into the audio/mic input on the laptop, or to some other amp/speaker setup.
