midi in not working

So I have my roland vs 1880 pluged in through spdif in/out and midi in out/ and for some reason i cant get my delta (m-audio) control panle to recongnize the spdif and i cant get the midi in to work, midi out works just fine but midi in doesnt
any help?

Make sure the 1880 is set up to send out to SPDIF (on the 1680 i remember it was a choice between 'Digital 1' and 'Digital 2')
Likewise, make sure you're set up to send MIDI out of the 1880.
