Midi dump

I have a Korg keyboard and a Akai mpc sequencer hooked up via MIDI cables. What would be the point of dumping a program or a sequence from one to the other via MIDI dump?

When i do so like the directions state nothing happens. I do not know if it is possible or not. If it is I would just like to see what happens to know if i want to do it. But it bugs me because nothing happens.

When I play around with it hooked up I can do cool things but dumping sequences or programs does not happen.

I'm not familiar with those particular MIDI systems, but in general you have to tell the device getting the dump that MIDI data to follow is to be recorded; the equivalent of hitting "record" button on a tape deck. The only point in doing this is if one device has some features (playback quality/sounds/ease of programming) that the other one doesn't.
