MIDI Drums

I use a MIDI Yamaha Keyboard for my drum tracks and I'm wondering, since I'm reading a book that says one MIDI port can support up to sixteen tracks, can I play 5 or 6 different drums and/or cymbals all at once and have each different drum piece be recorded to seperate tracks simultaneously? And more importatantly, Did I just make any sense?

Yes and yes.

Actually you only need one midi channel loaded with a drumset (with a different drumsound on each note). Then you can have as many tracks as you like pointing to that channel, each one kicking off a separate sound. Channel 10 is standard for drums...

I record all my midi drums parts on seperate tracks as a matter of course. It's much easier to edit them that way, audition different instruments from different kits, and to move between GM and non-GM drums kits.

If you are talking about recording MIDI data into Cubase from the keyboard, you record it as one MIDI track which can be automatically split into several tracks (MIDI>Dissolve Part...Choose by pitch or MIDI channel).

If you want to create new audio tracks for each sound, use the above step to take your pre existing file and dissolve it, and then simply solo each track one by one.
