Howdy, all. This may be be a silly or ignorant question, but I'm hoping someone can help me out (and forgive me if I don't explain this well)...

Is there a way to have a MIDI sequence trigger samples on my hard drive? To explain my situation, I have some cool drum sounds/samples (.wav files) that I'd like to use, but I still want to program my drums using my drum machine (a BOSS DR660) as opposed to clicking a grid in Fruity Loops, etc. So, if I program the parts in my drum machine and record the MIDI sequence from my drum machine into Sonar, is there a way to have the MIDI snare from the sequence trigger a sampled snare that I have on my hard drive (ditto with the bass drum, toms, whole kit, etc.)?

I understand that I could do this with an outboard sampler/sequencer (load the samples in and program it on there) but I don't really want to invest the time or money into another sequencer. I figured there must be a software program or some way to do this on my PC, but I'm pretty well lost right now. Can anyone offer some help/advice to the MIDI-ignorant in this area? Thanks much.

Off course :)
What version of SONAR are you running ? SONAR 2.2XL comes bundled with DXi2 DR-008 from fxpansion, which will work for this purpose :) The pad can assign wave files to be triggered by MIDI / sequenced track. For better info, go:

www.fxpansion.com

Blast! Still on Sonar 1.02. Most of the upgrade features seemed a little too far beyond my typical projects to warrant my cash...

Is there another way to go about it? I looked at the fxpansion site and that looked a little scary as well...

Sure, you can use the LiveSynth Pro and make a drum SoundFont file out of your drum samples...

Thanks for the post, AlChuck. Can you explain this a little more? I've heard of SoundFonts but that's about it... Is LiveSynth Pro part of Sonar? Is there any documentation on how to set it up in this fashion? etc.

Sorry to be so uninformed on this subject, but this is completely new ground for me...
