Midi Data from Audio of Kick or Snare Hits?

I would like to know if there is a way or software that I can use like triggers by placing a noise gate to the live recorded audio track of say snare hits and exporting the data to midi? Does something thing like EZ Drummer do this? I'd like to get the midi data and then be able to use different samples and such.
 
You could conceivably expand an audio track so that only the snare hits are above the gate threshold, then run it into the snare input of a trigger-to-MIDI converter box. It would be an "iffy" proposition at best, and probably a little expensive.
