Anybody with a reasonable amount of know how in this area kindly share some of that valuable information. I would like to obtain greater control over sound parameters throug midi conrollers such as automated portamento, LFO effects and the like. However, in looking at the manual for the Waldorf Micro Q, just to name an example, I find scarce information on how to acheive this. I believe that others, including myself, would benefit greatly from a discussion on this topic. Can we get some information here or what?
 
There are many new controllers on the market that allow more control (through sysex and the like) then their predeseors. Mostly these controllers have knobs and or sliders along with the regular compliment of keys. Some others don't even bother with the keys and just have knobs, buttons, sliders and jogs.

It really depends on what you want to do. Once you have a good idea of what parameters you wish to control (and how you wish to control them), then you can decide on the controller or controllers that are right for you.

Sound parameters in what? Software? Hardware?
 
all parameters on the Q can be altered by either MIDI CC Controllers 1-120 and MIDI SysEx data... that's fairly simple, but of course that depends on what sequencer you're using...

that means that controllers like the pocket control or the pocket dial from www.doepfer.de can be set to alter any parameter you want in a knob turn... check the appendix in the manual... their sequencers - like the MAQ16/3 - will also be able to do it in looped patterns which could be rather cool... personally, i want the schaltwerk once i can afford it...
 
Does'nt the Q already have knobs for all of it's functions?

You will need to refer to the midi implementation chart. They should have included that in the manual. Understanding it is the hard part!

Have you tried waldorf tech support?

That Doepfer stuff looks pretty cool!

haven't used it with reason, but they work with pretty much any application (the pocket control and drehbank and the rest with all programs and pocket dial with all programs/synths with feedback like cubase and stuff like that...)

all doepfer stuff i've tried is sturdy and really nice to work with and you can freely set up each knob in 128 banks or something...

i've fallen a bit in love with the schaltwerk... it's really intuitive... but huge...

... as for the other... the q have lots of submenus which arent controllable directely by midi controllers, but with sysex... so there is some sense in getting a controller, but imo, it's got plenty of knobs...
