MIDI controller noise that I can't figure out

Hi, I decided to try out some soft synths that came with Sonar 2.2.

I got a keyboard controller that is going into a MIDISport USB 4x4. When I try to play through any of the included soft synths (Edirol VSC, Triangle, Dreamstation) I get the proper sound but it sounds like a helicopter.

Has anyone had this problem? Can someone point me in the right direction to trouble shoot. Let me know if I need to explain further.

Its because your buffer and latency settings are not set properly.

You need to provide more information. What OS? CPU? Soundcard?
 
It's a Win2000 machine, PIII 933MHz. The soundcard is a TerraTec EWS88D. It's ADAT 8 in, 8 Out.

I'll play with the buffer and latency settings. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
