Hi new at this forum.

Could any one help me out ?

Using DP(Digital Performer) on a MAC-but its probably not relevant. Peripherals: Korg N1R module, some cheapy Roland controller.

The N1R has a built in interface (to include MIDI in,out, tru) going direct to computer via serial cable. controller midi out to N1R in.

I get sound/MIDI data in/out and can record, all nice and dandy.

The problem: Within Dp's MIDI monitor ( a window showing you what and if any MIDI data is being passed or "talking" with equip., and software), nothing is being transmitted. So I fugure the MIDI data is passing tru the N1R. Its fine for what I'm doing now, however I tried demoing some softsynth's Battery ,Unity ect..

I don't get any midi transmition from the controller, so the softsynth does not see any data hence no triggering of samples.
I'm just guessing, but is this right? Or could there be a setting problem? I've been to various bb's to get the low down on settings, and it seems everything is good.

So do I need a multiport MIDI interface to get direct data from the controller?

Help me out ??
Thanks
T

Okay, so we have slightly different setup & gears, but they should be similiar. I have Korg O5R/W hooked to SONAR 2.2XL (Windows). Using same type of interface (Cable AG-001 --> module to COM port). I hooked Korg SP-100 electric piano to the O5R/W MIDI In - Out. I never have any problem doing so. All I need to do is make sure I set Independent synth / MIDI out on Korg's driver property, so I have two independent port here. Korg Synth port goes to internal O5R/W, and Korg MIDI Out port goes to SP-100.
Korg SP-100 (as a controller) will send MIDI signal / data to PC independently through O5R/W...

And in your sequencer, you must select this port as your MIDI in (reffer to your application about how to figure it out). For me (SONAR), I reach it in Options --> MIDI devices. Highlight it...

Beautifull, James! :)

You shouldn't happen to know where I can find a driver for the Korg NX5R for WinXP?

The Korg connects through a COM-port, and the Win95-driver won't work (how strange)... Now it's just using up my MIDI-I/O's.

I use Dp's Freemidi application to handle allmidi config's. I don' t use Korg's PCIF driver because it can only interface with an orphaned "MIDI manager". But thanks for the info.

The controller only has midi- out> in- N1R

Hmmm if the sequencer (soft) is getting data from controller thru the module, it should be right. Maybe I don't have something set up right in Freemidi. That or the global setting in N1R. I'll give them a look. Thanks

Tonio, I don't use MAC, but in Windows, you have to go Control Panel to adjust your Korg driver properties. It worked like a charm since I use Win 3.1 several years ago. I believe it should run fine even in MAC.

moskus, I have four different driver for Korg ~ COM port MIDI connection.

for Win3.1/95
for Win98
for WinME
for Win2K/NT/XP

However, I found for Win98 is a bad driver. Don't use the Win98 version. It's a pain in the ass. I use "for WinME" on my Win98SE setup, and it worked fine. For Win XP, you can use the one for Win2K, ignore the compatibility warning popup (Microsoft signed issue) during installation. It should work just fine in WinXP.

Aaarrrggghhhh....

My site server is down by now...
It's when I thought I can upload those driver to my site so you can download 'em from there... What a crappy hosting service...

Don't worry, James! I'll wait... :)

You really are the MIDI-guru, aren't you? :D

Tonio, I tried the suggested sites, but didn't find any drivers that would work. I tried different 3 types... Maybe it's my Windows.

James, hurry!

Nope... looks like the whole server is downed. However, I've checked the file, actually it's not that big. Lets see if I can zip it and attach it here...

Beautifull...

Unzip & follow the instruction included...
I've tested with Korg X5, O5R/W, X5D, and X5DR. No problem. Let's see if it works with NX5R... Remember, ignore those Microsoft Signing popup durring installation process. Restart your Windows, and Rock N' Roll...

NICE!!! Thank you, James! :)

I'll report back after installation (which will be tomorrow)... ;)

James,
i got it working hey hey...
I had a old 1x3 interface laying around, hooked it up and presto all is good.
I even got to run Battery's demo, so its cool.
I tried using Korg's midi driver and tried to port IAC, but no go. I'll just use the MIDI connectors, they seem to "sound better'? if that's possible.
Only pain is I have to change the in/out on the N1R to do any fancy arpeggio syncing and stuff. Guess I could get a multi port dealio in the future.

Thanks again.

Yes, Tonio...
As far as I know, they never update Mac driver for Korg PC/IF driver since 1995 :( . I don't use Mac, so I'm not sure about it, but sounds like there must be problem installing it on newer Mac OS  I'm not sure...

Yeah, I hear you :) I used to have total 4 MIDI in and 6 MIDI out (Korg PC/IF, SB Live! port & external Vapi MIDI port). It's alot easier if each has their own dedicated port, so we don't have to plug/unplug things. Have you go www.motu.com ? They have many good interface up there...
