MIDI clock or not? Pros and Cons.

I have a Fostex D-160 that has a built-in MIDI clock that I can use for a metronome. The unit can base cut/paste/edit functions on the MIDI clock, but can also perform said functions using absolute time (down to milliseconds).

I'm not going to be doing any sequencing, nor driving of any MIDI devices. Just straight-ahead drums, guitar, bass, vocals, etc.

Besides being able to recreate a click-track later using the MIDI information, are there any other advantages to using the built-in clock as opposed to just using a drum machine as the tempo standard?

Any insights are welcome.

Thanks!
