MIDI --> Audio

I usually don't work to much with MIDI so I don't know too much about it, but I made a song a MIDI song that I really like in CW with the Piano Roll view. And when I copied the file over to my older computer (when my new one crashed :mad: ) it sounded completely different, and I didn't like it at all. I've heard you can re-record the MIDI track as an audio track and I was wondering if you can only do that if you have more that one soundcard, (play the song on one soundcard and record on the other), and if you can do it with only one, how?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

No Tekker, if you have a Sound Blaster that's all you need, you only need access to the soundfonts. If you need the procedure I can point you to it.

Let me know.

That'd be great, our new computer is finally back up now (yeah!!), and as soon as I get cakewalk on there I want to transfer my song back onto it and re-record it there because it sounds horrible on this computer, but if you want to you can go ahead and give me the low-down on how to do it, either in the posting here or in the chat room.

different sound cards?

if you have the same sound card in both PC's it should sound exactly the same. is the time slurring or speeding because of the performance power of the newer PC?

Both computers don't have the same soundcard, there's a Turtlebeach Montego in my old one and a Creative Audio (I think) in the new one. There's no time slurring at all, it just sounds different. You can still tell it is the same effects but they don't sound nearly as good as they did on the new computer.
 
Yeah, welcome to the world of General MIDI. Some sound sets sound very good, some not so good. One approach you might be able to take: some Sound Fonts are available in DLS format, another variation of the same idea that the Montego II card supports. If you can get one like that that you like, you can get pretty close to the same sounds out of both cards.

I like the way the song sounds on my new coputer and I don't want to change the way it sounds at all. I want a way to make it sound the same on any computer I play it on, or maby even burn it to CD. And since audio files don't change their sound like MIDI does, regardless of what they're played on, I thought that would be the best solution.
 
Oh yes, by all means, if you render the MIDI parts to audio then you have no problem at all.
 
That's what I was thinking, but I don't know how to do it.

I just tried it on my old computer to see if it would work and it did. I didn't actually record anything, but when I armed the track the meter was moving up and down so I know it'll work, and yep you were right "tis easy" :)

Just took our "new" computer in and got it fixed (my first time on it right now), remember before on this thread when I said it was fixed...well I thought it was fixed....key word "thought". It was up at the time but when we tried to install Windows (we tried ME and 98) it wouldn't install it so then we took it in. My dad had said to the guy that he thought it may be the RAM. Then when the guy was looking at it he burnt himself pretty good on one of the parts, he said that the fan for the micro processor wasn't plugged in and from how clean it looked, it had never been plugged in. And probably because of that our RAM did have a spot on it, so we replaced it and it works great now.....finally.:) So now as soon as I get Cakewalk back on I'll be able to mix down my song to audio, YEAH!!!

havin a blast with cakewalk, using it with a roland u-8 but midi seems to be a kick in the butt for me mu port is now vsc 3.0 it allows both audio and midi i have a lot to learn, anybody got any ideas?
