Midi and Headphone amps with hardware?

First, i've heard pro tools doesn't really record midi (I dont know if that is true), but if it is, what's the best way to record midi and then bring it into pro tools? Does MOTU software record midi well, and would you have to have a separate Midi clock piece of hardware for it? Also, do you know if I got Beyerdynamic 770dt pro headphones if i would have to get a headphone amp for it when connecting it to recording hardware such as a digidesign mbox, or anything else, or do they have preamps built in? Thanks

I can answer your pro tools questions...but the other gear I don't know about.

First off...whoever told you that you can't record MIDI in PT needs to be slapped. Pro Tools can record MIDI just as good as any other software. The only thing people have against MIDI in pro tools is some editing capabilities. Some people say it doesn't edit as well as Digital Performer or Logic....but those programs were built originally FOR MIDI while pro tools was built for audio. I could say the same thing for DP or Logic...they don't edit audio as well as PT does. Still, with 6.4 I haven't come across anything that has limited my MIDI skills. Perhaps if you are a MIDI expert who can program his own synths or something...maybe PT isn't the perfect choice. But chances are you'll be fine with it.

As far as the headphone thing, are you wanting to buy just one headphone for yourself to record with?? (No mixing with headphones! )...If you are, then you'll be fine with the headphone you want. Just plug it into the headphone jack. The only reason you would need a headphone amp is if you plan on sending signal to like 4 headphones for each individual artist to have their on mix.
