Hey Alchuck and all the posters on HomeRecording.. I've recently set up a little home recording project (in lovely San Mateo, CA) as well and I've some MIDI woes. First of all, I'm using Emagic Logic Express 6 as Software on a G3 500Mhz 726 mb RAM. I'm using the Tascam US-122 unit to record my basic audio tracks and hopefully using a M-Audio Radium 49 to record MIDI. Now...I've been doing my reading and such, and when I record (or write?) the MIDI into Logic it displays all of the notes that I'm playing correctly. There's just one problem, I have no idea how any of the notes sound. Is there any way for me to actually hear what I'm playing through Logic with my current equipment, or should I just return the M-Audio and call it a day. Thanks for any advice or help you could give me!

well...what are you using as a synth? you just need to plug your headphones or speakers into the output of that. if it's a software synth, plug it into whatever the output of the synth is going to (you'll need to look at you options menu to see...but generally it'll just be your soundcard that Logic is using). If it's an outboard synth, plug your speakers into the output of it.

The simplest solution is to get a software synthesizer. I believe Logic Express supports VST instruments. Read the documentation and see. One caveat, I believe Logic stop developing for Windows, but I'm not sure how long ago that was. If the version you have is the latest and it does not support VST instruments, you will need to switceh to a different software app, like CUbase or SONAR.

Ar!

Well, I've been reading it... But I'm still confused. When I open Logic itself it has 16 midi tracks already on the screen for various instruments...I don't know if that is what a VST instrument is...because I'm a noob, but I'll keep reading.]

Thanks..>Glen

Cool...although

Yea I saw that, but in the Logic manual it also states that I'd need an alternative MIDI tone box thing (MIDI out to) I might just bring the board back to guitar center and get some effects pedals for my guitar =P

Thanks for all the help. Hey Al, let me know when you're playing in San Mateo (or in general the Bay) till then take care!

Glen
