I have been messing around with the BR-8 for a few months. My problem? I can't get a good sound with my mic - I have a Shure BG 1.1 Dynamic Low Z. The vocals sound empty. Is it the mic? Or the eq settings? I am also in the market for a new mic and would love some input on what are some good mics for recording vocals. And this DR-5, can it be synched with the rythem guide? I am looking at getting one of those as well. My, my, my, the money goes out easily... Thanks y'all

mic

It's the mic..a Shure SM58 will suit you, but If you have the money, I'd go with an entry level condenser, although the Shure is a 'classic' that you'll keep forever...If you've got the money, try an AKG C3000b, or a Studio Projects C1...if you DONT have the money, try a Rode NT3..also check the 'microphone' forum :)

Get a mic pre!

That's it! BR-8 is a fabulous entry level digital recording studio, but it has its shortcomings, one of which being the built-in mic pre. It really is not a good mic pre. Buy one! Search "mic pre" in the mic forum for help.

Thanks

I appreciate the help. Any other shortcomings the BR-8 has would help as well. Anything else I need?

thanks!! Rubio

Rubio, for a inexpensive but very quiet preamp check out the M Audio Audio Buddy mic/preamp direct box that sells for about $80.
