Im wanting to record with my 6 piece band. I have a tascam 4 track and laney mixer as well as a cd burner. My problem is that the vocalist has his own shure mic for him but i only have a couple of cheap mics. What i need to know is what type of mics i would need to buy to record a five piece drum kit and guitar amps. I would need to buy them second hand probably and would have a budget of around £200- $400 i think? Any advice would be appreciated.

First get a dynamic that can get the bass drum down, sm57s have been used for this with good results.

then get two good over heads marshall 603s maybe and then a cheap mixer like the behringer 602 for phantom power for the two mics.

if used in a live room woth a gobo behind the drums you get that feel that you may have herd on moby dick or other drum tracks using the three mic setup. You can mic the snare with another 57 and still be within budget.
