Mics for Drum Overheads/Acoustic Guitar - $400 Max.

I'm looking for suggestions on a pair of small condensers. I will be using them for drum overheads on mostly loud rock/punk drums. I also want to use them for acoustic guitar (where guitar will be the only thing besides vocals). Is there something that will do a good job on both? I'm looking to spend no more than $400 for the pair.

I record with Cubase and a Mackie VLZ-PRO mixer. I currently have an AT4040 for vocals and a Shure 57.

are some possibilities.

I'd invest in another AT4040 for $299, and use them on OH's and acoustic gtr. You'll get better overall results for those two applications from a pair of 4040's than you will from any pair of SDC's for under $400/pr.

Thanks, the 2 AT4040's is definitely a possibility. Do I have to worry about "matching" with them or can I just pick another one up?

Buy another AT4040 and see if you can find a pair of MK012's for $150 or less. If you're patient you can probably fit all three mics within or just over the $400.

Put your AT4040 up in overhead and see if it delivers what you want in high-end cymbal tones. If it does, get a 2nd one.

If it doesn't reach high enough to catch the sizzle and sheen, consider a pair of SDC that can reach 20 KHz.
