Ive been looking for a good vocal mic and i decided to spend a little extra cash. originally i was looking at the at 4033 or 4040, but if it makes a noticeable difference it'll be worth it to spend some more on a better mic.

following with the at's i was checking out the 4047. what are some other good mic's in the price range of 500 or 600 for vocals and how do they compare? im currently using a studio projects b1 through a vtb1 pre and i want to step it up.
thanks

I like my Rode NTK on a lot of vocals. It can be a little essy on some vocalists though. It can be had for around $425-$450. I'd call around.

That would be a good choice.

a Blue Baby Bottle might also be nice. ADK make some good mics in that price range -- TL or TC. There's also the Studio Projects T3 that's supposed to be pretty decent.

Not to sound dumb, but, do you own these ones? If so, how would characterize them?

Just going off what I've heard from others whose opinions I trust. Compared to something like a T3, it's going to be similar, only with a somewhat more robust low end and a little less air on the very top. -- Supposedly.

I have worked with a baby bottle and a 4047 before, and I think those are both excellent mics -- the 4047 probably being a more flattering choice for vocals with the BB more on the neutral side of the fence (good for instruments and such).
