I recently came across the Microsound Digtal Tools for audio - The Microeditor software and the Krystal DSP soundcard for the PC platform. They cliaim this to to ouclass even Digidesign Protools. How good is this? Is it comparable with the popular SWs like Cakewalk, etc and soundcards like ardvark or Event series? Anybody who has experience with this? What is the price?

Please enlighten me

Not that I've had much hands on experience with personal DAWs or even have my ears around those who have, but I've never even heard of them.

I just went to Microsund web site and checked the specs ...Pretty impressive but they aren't giving this stuff away either @$2500 for a 2 channel sound card and audio editing software. The one thing that was impressive was the testimonials that go back several years comparing Microeditor as a better than Protools option. The fact that sme of these post are referring to success on a 486 says something for the software. This system would probably do most anyone a decent job but......Right now there are so many new and soon to be released options that unless your in a major rush I'd recomenddoing your homework and checking out the pro's and con's
of all the contenders. Digidesign's 001 bundled with protools LE is very cool and there are many other "new" players coming into this evergrowing industry. The "package" deals such as the 001 and Microeditor makes sense for some but a custom built DAW seems to allow more flexibility and probably more often than not better recordings. good luck sifting through the choices.

Thank you for the info on Digidesign's 001. I am not in a hurry but would like to set up a PC based homestudio within 2 -3 months. I won't need more than 4 tracks' reco at time and even two is sufficient. Advice me on a suitable, good quality, yet cost effecive system.
