I plug a mic (dinamic) with an XLR out adapted to a 1/4" jack in my soundcard (its a phillips mic, the cable came with it), is there a way to improve the sound I get from the mic ?

(I have a soundblaster audigy platinum with that fancy front drive).

Thanks

Absolutely!

Pull the mic out of the mic port, buy a mic/guitar preamp and run it so:

Mic->Preamp->Line-in

The mic ports on SB cards are crap and should only be used with those cheap mics used for videoconferencing/internet gaming.

PS: E bom ver outro brasileiro por aqui! :)

I agree 100%! In the begining I tried the line-in of the SB card and it was crap! get the preamp.

Now, to record

thank you guys so much !

What kind of processing should be used to reduce the "p" and "s" ? Is there any plugin for cooledit or something ? ("p" sound "very intense", and "s" sound like wispers)

Thank you so much again !

Brzillian, can you tell me...would your pre-amp approach also be better for a distorted direct guitar signal, rather than going straight into Audigy 2 line-in? If so, do you have a recommendation (nothing special, just acceptable).

preamp

Dear American,

I'm sorry I don't speak english that good so I could not understand exactly what you said.

As for my preamp, it is a processor for guitar effects. And its a very good one ! I can record a very good guitar sound with that.

I once tried to use it to record the voice because of the compressor, to reduce de "impact" of the "p"s. It didn't work because the voice lost it's caracteristic, and I gave up although I didn't tested the compressor.

What I want to know now is how to reduce the "p"s. I don't know how can I do it.

Is your question answered ?

You should always run things like guitars and mics through pre-amps to bring the signal to a more uniform and regulated line level for recording.
