Hi folks,
Im a sax player and want to record myself over some play alongs. I need a mic - any suggestions as to they type and where to get it? And is it a case of just plugging the mic into the mic slot in my laptop?

Cheers all

Joe

As many people will tell you, a good all round, inexpensive mic is a Shure SM57 or SM58, this is a dynamic mic which will sound good if your just starting out on almost n e thing.

You could plug a mic staight in to your laptop, however it needs to be amplified, and the pre amps in the laptop will plus the soundcard you have built into the laptop will be very poor quality. You could buy a seperate usb interface with built in pre amps such as an M audio fast track, which work well.

Another idea would be to buy the USB version of the Shure Sm58 which is about £99. Not sure how good the conversion or preampplification is but im guessing its prob better than plugin straight into the mic input on you laptop

good luck!
