Winner chicken dinner!
In the documentary Some Kind Of Monster what kind of mic was Hetfield using? Was it an Shure SM7? His vocals sound amazing just like the rest of the album.

That was an SM7. Half the time the foam wind screen was taken off.

All they showed on that movie, though, was laying scratch tracks down. It doesn't mean that's what Rock used for them on the final vocals. Just keep that in mind.

One of those tracks I saw Hetfield doing sounded EXACTLY like the album version. I.E. it sounded amazing just like the rest of the album.

If you go through all the comentary tracks on the DVD, they tell you that those were the takes. The idea was to capture a very raw sound so there were no Neumanns in pristine vocal rooms on this album.

Dude I've been listening to it nonstop since it came out. Dead serious. I actually couldn't believe me ears the first time I heard it. When I heard lyrics like:

"My lifestyle.....determines my deathstyle"

"I'm madly in anger with you"

and my personal favorite:

"killkillkillkillkillkillkillkill(x50)"

That coupled with the drums......wow. I honestly think it's awesome.

I think the highlight of the album for me is this little gem:

"FRANTIC TIC TIC TIC TIC TIC TOCK"

Genius.

Takes or no takes, the SM7 would be my first choice if Hetfield walked into the room right now anyway. IMHO, one of the greatest mics for loud, heavy, "in your face" vocals ever made. No surprise why they'd use it as a workhorse.

ROTFLMAO!
Dot, that is too freakin funny....
The first time I heard St. Anger, I was like the WTF is this? It sounds like complete shit. There was never a second time...

You must REALLY hate it to go through that much trouble to make fun of it, though...lol.

P.S.
I promise that people would buy your album if you put that out there. System of a Down makes a living doing crazy shit like that. Or haven't you heard SH-SH-SH-SH-Sugar.....?
lol

DOT - OMG, freakin' hilarious....I can hardly type for laughing....

Metallica really took a big dump on this one...this album sucks, no two ways about it...I listened to a sample of each track once at the Virgin store when it came out and immediately concluded this was the first Metallica CD I wouldn't own.

I swear Lars' snare sounds like a trash can...I see the official Lars' Tama snare going for $400+...Dot, your chair sounds better!!

Oh my God, you hit it right on the head (or chair!). That's exactly my impression of the album. Thanks for the great laugh. I hope you don't mind if I share this with friends.

Personally, I prefer the sound of a highback leather executive, but hey, that's just me...

What's the best mic for a foldable chair? I don't think the sm57 is the right choice. Should I use a condenser?

some kind of monster was hilarious! it was like spinal tap, except they werent trying to be funny. over-the-hill band who doesnt get along trying to keep it together. i cant believe metallica thought putting this out would be a good idea.

i love early metallica, but the new album sounds like any generic nu:metal band that is out there today. in my opinion, the lyrics are horrible. sound like they were written by some 15 year old.

hetfield is an even bigger pussy than lars. after his 6 month stay in rehab he will only work from 12 - 4 every day and he gets all pissy when lars and bob rock even listen to tracks without him. and what kind of person would go on a two week bear hunting trip in russia during their sons FIRST birthday. what a selfish, selfish man.

i like kirk alot. he is like the ringo of the group - "guys, why dont we go hammer out this song instead of hammering on each other". and i never realized what a good guitarist he is till you see him playing. that being said, the day metallica breaks up is the day kirk comes out of the closet. that scene with him riding horses, his hair all flowing in the breeze. it was transcendant!

i like robert trujillo. he was about to cry when they said he was getting one million upfront. good for him!
