I just need to ask some silly questions

1. Does mono microphone gives output only on one side speaker or left side of headphone ?
2. If above answer is yes, can some software help me give output on both the sides

p.s. I want to buy microphone for recording audio for my educational video tutorial series

Hi.
A 'normal' microphone is indeed mono, but usually when you record to hardware or software you'll have a pan knob per mono track and a stereo master output.

With a mono track's pan knob at 0 or dead centre, the mono signal is sent to both left and right outputs equally.

Thanx a lot. That was great help. Would you suggest anything that I should consider before buying ? I just want to make sure my students can hear me clearly and its not annoying to hear my voice.

A microphone has one output (unless you get a stereo or Soundfield mic.)

Why do you want software to fix a simple thing?

If you are plugging a simple microphone into a camera all you need to do is to feed the signal into both channels - this is done by how you wire the plug - many camera mics are already wired like this.

But you really need some basic tuition before you start doing anything - or get some books and read them through.

Glad to help.

You're recording to a computer, right?
A common dynamic microphone plugged straight into a computer input is usually problematic for a few reason.

On here people usually suggest a microphone and dedicated audio interface,
but for your purposes and in the interests of simplicity, a decent USB mic would be a great option.

You might want to get a little pop filter too, not only to control blasts of air, but to remind you to maintain a certain distance too.
That'll help with nice even recording.

If you don't have recording software, look at audacity or reaper.

It should pretty much be a case of plugging in the USB mic, selecting it in your recording software, and hitting record.

That was really simple. Thanks a lot I'm sorted

Not a problem.

If you have any hitches, don't be a stranger. :)

Hi everyone I need help again

I'm from Mumbai(Bombay) India and I've been trying to buy a Microphone for recording audio for my video tutorials.
Recently I bought a microphone with XLR connector and which had a 6.5mm plug and used another plug with 6.5mm (input) and 3.5mm (output) to connect it to my PC. But it didn't work. The recording had high zzz noise and my voice was extremely low. I couldn't hear it properly even in VLC player with full volume. So I returned it.

My budget is Rs 2000 or 40$-50$ max. I bought the above mic from Lamington Road which is the only electronic market I know in Mumbai. I've been trying to locate websites
based in India and shops in Mumbai but till now haven't found one.

Now I've found this Bluecell Black Color USB Desktop Stand Microphone For PC/Computer/Laptop/No-EOX mic on ebay but couldn't find any proper review only 2 reviews I found was on amazon. And I'm really confused what to do as I never heard of Buecell. (Can't Post Links Coz I haven't exceeded 10 posts)

So I request you all to please share some info(if you know/used/heard of it) on this Bluecell mic which is the only mic in my budget range on internet.

And if anyone knows about shops in Mumbai or Indian based websites plzz let me know. I've tried google with every possible word combination and it didn't help.

My system info is
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60Ghz
RAM: 2GB DDR2
Motherboard: Asus P5KPL-AM/PS
And I don't have separately installed sound card or graphic card..

Please Help

Those are the 'few reasons'. lol.

I don't have first hand experience with USB mics but there are certainly capable ones out there for basic voice work.
What you need is to test one out first hand, or check out some youtube reviews where they are actually in use.

That's the only surefire way to know if any given mic will sound decent, I'm afraid.
