Microphone Hell. Shure, AKG, Rode..?

I sent the first one back after a week because of the dynamic response, the one I sent back this week was my second. I've given up on that model of 58 altogether.

Where are you getting these mics? There are counterfeit Shure mics being sold on Ebay. The odds of two consecutive authentic SM58s having that problem are extremely low.

A crisp, dynamically sensitive mic is all I want!

Maybe you want a condenser mic. An MXL v67-G can be had for about the same price as an SM58. I have used the mic to great effect, and only stopped using it when I picked up a pair of AT 4050s.

I got the mics from Musical Instruments - Recording Studio Equipment | DV247, and have been in contact with Shure themselves since, so I doubt they could be counterfeit as I told them where I bought them from. They were both never dropped. Checking the Oktava MK-219 & MXL v67-G now guys, thanks.

Another thing...

Anyone think this could be a real SM57? Seems pretty cheap for a new one... :/

For benefit of non British members, DV24/7 is a highly reputable UK supplier and an official dealer for many manufacturers including Shure. I wish we had similar down here in Aus!

I have to say, the SM58 is not a favourite of mine even for live use...but they shouldn't be as bad as described here...just a bit screechy a the upper mid peak and lacking some clarity/punch in the the lower mid/bass end. I'd be looking at other causes before buying a new mic.
