Any ideas on best solution for doing audition recordings for 10-11 year old children. Solo voice and Piano. I already have the piano track. I cheated. I used the Bosendorfer virtual instrument and recorded the accompanist. I will be recording the kids next week. I have used an AT4040 for adult vocals and used a pair of R0DE nt5's on a children's chorus. I have the budget to add a mic. Should I just use AT4040 the AT4040 or look to something different? Sweetwater has some new deals on BLUE mics. Baby Bottle for 5 bills and the Bluebird for three and half? Anyone had success with child vocals? I will be using the preamp in the Mackie Onyx 1220 board to a M-AUDIO 410 to Sonar 6 PE

Thanks

I don't have any of the mics you mentioned, but from my experience you want a mic that is a little on the warmer side. You don't want a bright sibilant mic. The kids voices are higher pitched and a little unpredictable on volume and plosives, a warmer mic ,lightly compressed, will do wonders to bring out some intimacy and character for solo voices.

So It sounds like I need to use the AT4040. I have a RNC and a RNLA. I may experiment with either of those and the AT4040 with my eldest daughter who is one of the kids I am recording.

Thanks
