I've been looking around for a good microphone for some hard-rock lead vocals i want to record at home. right now i have a samson C01u USB mic which is fairly good but i want to go further and experiment with stuff closer to what you'd find in the studio. my budget at max is $350 as i also need to get myself an audio interface to get it working. any suggestions? thanks! :D

You should seriously consider a dynamic like an Electrovoice RE20, Shure SM7, or even one of the Heil dynamics. Great for rock vocals and useful for many other applications. At that price point you really can't go wrong as you will use it forever. You can't say that about a lot of cheap Chinese condensers.

Definitely SM7b
For my money, no mic comes close....if I could only have one mic to make a full record, that would be it. A must have all around mic, and fantastic on vox. (wish I would have known that 10 years ago)

I like some nice transformer in the vocals for the radio sound. Sowter , was mentioned in another thread and is good. The Swedish Lundahl has a sweet character that is fattening for the voice.

Transparent or transformer and when.

You can build a Z box where you can load the microphone, for $20. The component is a 1k pot. It will give some stressing options other than roll off. Look into it.
