I would like to record an instructional cd on my home PC. I have an SB Live 1024 Digital Sound Card on the PC. Can someone suggest a microphone and audio software that would be good to use? I am merely recording my voice with some light music in the background. Do you think I can get professional sounding results???

Thanks.

About as much chance as I have of scoring with Heidi Klum ... but one can always dream, can't they?

Try an SM-57. It's a good starter mic. Plug that in to a cheap mic pre like an M-audio Audio Buddy if they still make those things. Go from the line output of that in to the line input of your sound card, download a free copy of Audacity (do a google search) and you'll be good to go.
