Hi all,

I am new to recording and I got a Micro BR with a Shure Beta 58a mic. When I connect the mic and try to record with my Micro BR, I find the volume very low, I have to almost shout and eat the microphone to get enough volume. I tried tune up the gain on Micro BR, but it doesn't work. Is that I will need a pre-amp in order to use this mic?

If I go and upgrade to BR-80 or BR-800, does that eliminate the need for a mic pre-amp?

Thanks.

the 800 has mic pres in it so you wouldn't need one for it.
The Micro and the Micro 80 don't have mic pres built in which you can tell by the fact that they don't have XLR jacks for the mic. I'm assuming you're using some kind of adapter to get your mic plugged into that 1/4" jack on the Micro you have.

It just depends on what you want. It'd be way cheaper to just buy a mic-pre if your money's tight. You can get them as cheap as 30 bucks or so.
But if you have some money, then the 800 would be a more capable recorder and you wouldn't need a pre with it.

I have a Micro BR as well and the mic input supports mini-condensor mics that are either battery powered or have the ability to use "Plug In Power".
