Antone experimented with micing a bass guitar neck/fretboard to get finger sounds? Mostly metal type music. Whats mic's worked best? sm57? Compression? Thanks

zappa had a contact mike built in to the neck of one of his guitars for that purpose.
i believe that fred frith (avandgarde jazz dude - awesome player) had the same, he also had a pick up mounted upside down above the nut to pick up the sounds on the 'other side' of the string.
that's about all i know on the subject!
