Micing up a BIG drum set...Need help A.S.A.P Please!!

Hey, my drummer plays on a rather large drum set. He uses 2 kicks, 4 toms, and multiple cymbals. I am going to be recording them in a few days. I have miced them before, but i need to know how i can get the right sound out of a set this size. I'm using Apex mics. 3 tom mics, 2 kick mics, 2 condensers (all Apex). This is for a heavy metal band, so we're looking for a Slayer type sounding drum set. My dream souding set can be found in a band called Threat Signal ( www.myspace.com/threatsignal ) for sound samples. I would love to get something close to this but im not exactly sure how to set up everything. Where should blankets be used? Should I hang anything up around the kit to help? Any suggestions are appretiated. Thanks.

Kick mic on the two kicks, tom mic on the floor tom, two tom mics in an X/Y below the rack toms (unless you can find another tom mic), find yourself an SM57 or something for the snare. Use the two condensers as overheads. Experiment with whether the kick mic sounds better inside the drum near the batter or outside. Experiment with how high to put the overheads. Bring them lower if you have too much cymbals and not enough toms.

Don't use blankets or hang anything if you can help it. Try to record in a room with a high ceiling if you can. Only resort to blankets if you are recording in a garage with a concrete floor or something, in which case you should use it to cover most of the floor. :)
 
It might be hard to get the "Slayer" drum sound useing just Mics because Most of the newer stuff uses Triggers for the recordings at least on the Bass drums, That is how they get that nice heavey thwack sound out of the Bass drum.....

Triggers for the bass drum sound pretty good but you can also trigger other Parts of the kit.....

Dead huh? Bad enough you're after 13yr old boys with self-esteem issues, but now you're asking specfically for someone to provide personal information so you can hurt the little boy??? Wow...someone should monitor your internet activity.
Oh wait...they already are.
