a friend of mine has a nice line 6 amp with two 12 in speakers, and a SM57 to mic it. he used to try and record into a BOSS digital recorder, then play it out of the rec. into his computer with cakewalk. He was complaining of poor recording levels on CD an just bad sound all together. I told him he's wasting a good computer not to use his cakewalk and to get rid of the digital recorder and by a good preamp and sound card, then just go into the comp. I just wanted to pass my advice by you guru's to see if I was wrong. He would record into the dig. rec. then playback out and into the comp. Thanks

What he uses is not important at this point, but how he uses what he has. If he does not know what he is doing - he will always end up with garbage. Some people prefer to use equipment seperate from the computer.

if its line 6 doesnt it have a direct out?

yes, but i have yet to hear a direct signal that sounds better than a properly mic'd amp.

line 6 specifically designs their amps to do that, so check out.

i had a line 6 whatever u call em guitarports... trash man total trash, sure u get the millions of different sounds, but they sound like theyre locked up in a box, 4 thousand feet away from you, and there isnt eq so ur fucked. the amp should make a difference too, cuz my 13 watt crate sounded like shit (thats why i bought gutiarport) then i sold both and got my vintage jcm900 marshall stack. MMMMM TASTY
