I wouldn't use the pres in the 1010LT. They're pretty awful from all I've read.

What kind of Alesis mixer?

well i used a M-Aduio Ozone with a built in Pre. Its alright. But i mostly use the M-Audio as a controller.

M-audio pres starting from the 410's are OK. Not great.

the pres in my 002 are pretty much awesome.

thats why i love the 002- sure, its the basic firewire interface, but the pre's are crystal clear.

enough of my raving!

ok.. i dont think you should worry about the pop filter if your using a 57. (?) i'm not really very familiar with recording rap vocals (i jumped the gun, you didnt say that yet right?) but i dont think a dynamic would require a pop filter in your case. i might be wrong...

uhh, whatever, i think if you're pretty much scrapping the whole thing together, the pre's you have will be good enough.

do you have pre-made backround tracks, or are you making those? if they are good, then you won't have to worry about the vocals too much, just dont make them too loud and nobody else will notice.

maybe. i might be completely wrong in every way. i'm a little tired here.

Plosives will effect any type of mic, regardless of the tranducer. Condensers just happen to be more sensitive. Some mics happen to have built-in pop protection, the SM57 doesn't. You can do without one if you play with placement, but if the mic tends to border on being in your mouth a good deal of the time, a pop screen definitely helps. It'll help a bit with keeping vocalists a consistant distance away from the mic, too.
