I have what I hope is a nice dat and nice mic. How do I make a nice recording? I have a Sennheiser e835 mic and a Panasonic sv-3800 dat recorder. I want to make a nice classical guitar recording (nylon strings, no amp). Recommendations? Do I need more equipment? Preamp? Mixer? I don't really want a mono finished product. I tried direct (analog) input with record level set at max and I barely hear the guitar and I definitely hear hiss and of course the sound is only in one channel.

BTW I have already ordered a Behringer mixer (small board with two xlr inputs, I think: I don't have it yet.)

Thanks in advance for any help!

The mixer will work for you. It has the mic preamps you need. However, it will not be a stereo recording if you only have one mic. With the mixer, you can get sound on both the left and the right from the one mic, but you need at least 2 mics for stereo.
