Taking the slow road
Give your area, your mics you'd be willing to bring and test w/ someone else's gear, and what mics you're interested in trying.
I'm in NY I'll drive 2 hours, I have an MR8 that works on batteries, I have an Art V3, MXL v67g, sm58, sm57, ecm8000, willing to spend about $250 on another mic if it really helps, I record vocals, acoustic gitar for my current project.
Anyone want to stop by here, no problem. I set up my mics, you handle yours. A couple of hours is enough for demo-ing some mics.
Anyone want to demo something you don't have? If I don't have it then somebody does. If you have the space, then maybe a couple of people can meet. This spending $10,000 on mics and returning and re-selling and ebay and stuff is great if you have 10 years, money, and patience.
I'll try any mic or pre I don't have. My list is newbie territory, but I'm sure there are nubes here that would like to demo my short list, lets go.
