If you guys can't see the writing on the wall then spelling it out for you is a waste of bandwidth............

I cashed in on the Musicians Friend deal, and got the carrying bag as well.
While I don't like these as much as my bigger Atlas stand and boom, or
the K&Ms, they're a hell of a lot better than the first mic stands I bought
from Radio Shock. The I can use these with heavy mics, and the booms
don't sag, they and they are very stable, unless you fully extend the boom.
These work fine for me as I'm only an ocasional home studio recordist,
if you're running a pro studio where you will use your stands everyday,
then I would go with the K&M.

I have a QuikLok A50 stand w/boom that normally has a Soundelux ELUX 251 (fairly heavy tube mic) hanging from it. I highly recommend the A50. Very sturdy and can be had for around $125.

i think the point is

that chinese is cool as long as you're doing it but if someone else is, it's not at all cool. that whole do as i say, not as i do thing. i don't get it either.

like yescalero said, the on-stage stands are fine for the occasional work for those who need a lot of "decent" stands at a cheap pricepoint, and if you sandbag the tripods, they'll hold your heavy LDCs just fine. i use my 6 on a bi-weekly basis, but not much more than that. i got the carrying bag too and it comes in handy when i've gotta schlep the damn things. mostly they hold vocal mics in my live room and they do juuuuuust fine at that task.

however, if you have the cash and $50-80 per stand isn't out of your budget, then absolutely go with the K&M stands. there's no argument that they're better. be nice to know where they're made, though. :D

I'd like to second the vote for Tama stands.

Tama's are extremely solid and well made (as noted they've been making drum hardware for years). The only thing I wish they had were stands in black -- as far as I know, they only come in chrome, but the stands are great!

:D

tama stands

i was looking at those last night on musician's fiend, and was wishing i'd bought their "3 big ones, 3 little ones" set for $170, b/c that looks like a really nice deal and those stands look quite nice.

but man, that chrome just plain turns me off. i like black for mic stands b/c that sets them apart from my drum/cymbal stands.....i suppose maybe i could get some of that powder-based spray paint...... :D

Yeah... black would be nice.

I'll have to look into the MF deal.... I do love my stand even if it is chrome :O

i'm chinesse

guys... stop bashing chinnesse people... I'm chinnesse myself

haha no, i'm really not. but wouldn't you feel like an asshole if i was?... nah you probably wouldn't..

open mouth.......

<<If you guys can't see the writing on the wall then spelling it out for you is a waste of bandwidth............>>

C7 and Riley, i respect your opinions and the fact that y'all make good music....and i agree with y'all *most* of the time.....but....

...but i tell ya what: you find me an all-american made mic that rivals the Studio Projects B1 in function, quality and price, and i'll be the first one in line. Make it $30 more if you have to, i don't care.

my point is, i buy american and support american companies and workers (which, last i checked, PMI Audio and Alan Hyatt both counted as) whenever i can. i'm all for helping and supporting those "at home". i buy and drive american trucks (and so does my wife), i use Craftsman tools, play American-made guitars (Martins and US-made Fenders), vote Libertarian and eat produce grown locally here in Central VA. i listen to Denis Leary, George Carlin and Santana (oops, he's mexican.....but he played at woodstock, can i still listen to him?). however, like most people, I have a finite amount of money and like most americans, i want the best bang for my hard-earned buck. if an american-made product gives me that, perfect.

i don't suppose those of you spouting anti-chinese rhetoric have any german-made mics, do you? what about russian-made ones? or heaven forbid those really freaky lookin ones coming from that there Baltic region. what are those people smoking to be making such freaky lookin mics? their local produce, i suppose......but no matter--they sure don't look a'merkin to me.

in other words, you'd better have an incredibly small mic locker b/c there's no way you can bash chinese-made mics for the sole reason they're not made in the US all the while supporting german or russian manufacturers (or heaven forbid those genius freaks at B.L.U.E.). otherwise you've got one hell of a double standard.

you don't drink coffee or eat kiwis, bananas or papayas, do you? you don't use nutmeg, pepper, vanilla or cinnamon, do you? and i hope your wife doesn't have any diamonds, emeralds, rubies or tanzanite, b/c none of that stuff comes from the US. and those poor souls who do the harvesting (mining, etc) aren't paid squat for their honest days' work. less than those chinese mic stand makers, even. and let's not even start on what brand TV you might have.....OR the fact that a lot of american-made goods are simply overpriced shoddy pieces of crap (*cough* my wife's chevy cavalier *cough*).

anyway, so let's open our brains and think a little bit before we start throwing stones. and let's open our eyes to the fact that it's a WORLD we live in and a large part of the stuff you and i use on a daily basis just plain isn't made in the US.

a good mic is a good mic, regardless of how expensive or inexpensive it is, where it's made or whose hands made it.

rantalicious,
wade

PS--now can we PLEASE get back to talking about MUSIC and RECORDING? If i wanted myopic politics, i'd discuss rush limbaugh with donna shalala. in the words of rodney king, "can't we all just get along?"

Oh, and mikeyc222, buy whatever freaking mic stand is the best one that your budget allows. just like you'd do with mics, pre's, mixing boards, cars, houses, boats and guitars.

I thought we were talking about stands. Who cares if they are made in the US or not (and I am patriotic). I mean it is a stand for God's sake. Who cares. I would find the cheapiest stand and I wouldnt care if it said made in Tiwan all over it, as long as it stands up well and is sturdy. I mean, Chineese and Japaneese people are just that, people. They make really good equipment just like the engineers here in the US. What about Yamaha? Japaneese company that makes some of the best drums and drum hardware out there. Why bash someone because they dont speak the same language you do?

I don't think C7's point is about race or jingoism, and I'm sensitive to his point of view, but if it is a mic stand you are looking for, the only cheap ones that are any dood, are, as C7 points out, made in a country where people are imprisoned for what they say and what they believe, and where resistance to the party line is crushed with tanks and bullets.
The people who say things are changing are right, in a way. The old guard cannot stop the rebellion that is already beginning, and China stands on the brink of civil war.
If this is about mic stands, On Stage SB96+ is the cheapest one that really works. I understand what C7sus is saying, though. It's not about people having yellow skin. It's about the fact that the money you pay for that Chinese mic stand will go to a bunch of guys who will use it to pay for a nuclear tipped missile that is pointed at *you*. It's not as simple as C7 doesn't like the heathen Chinee. You have to do what you have to do, but don't kid yourself about what the old Stalinists in Beijing have planned for you. My guess is, before it comes to that, they're going to have bigger problems with their own people. One thing is for sure, though- All of us, including C7 spend our hard earned money on Chinese goods everyday. You have to decide for yourself if you just need a mic stand.-Richie

I got a nice deal on a 6-pack of OnStage stands with Euro booms and a gig bag (from eBay), at $16 each.

I tried to buy locally from guitar center, but they wanted a ridiculous price.
