does anyone have any advice on how to reduce mic spill. mainly talking about on acoustic drumkit here. i have quite alot of spill on my mics and i know its not avoidable but is it reduceable?

cheers

Then maybe a makeshift tunnel for your kick drum.
Find member jimmys69 and then in his signature there is a link to pictures of his studio there you will find this tunnel that I speak of.

But for the rest of the set don't worry about it.

Use sampled drums. ;-)

Honestly I can't see it being too big of a problem... Where do you place your kick mic(s)?

Heck I use an LDC on my bass drum a few inches back now, which gets a lot of bleed, even with heavy blankets as a tunnel, but it still sounds great overall.

well i dont have a sound hole on my kick so its placed a few inches off center on the resonant side
