This isn'tfor audio but for a wedding ceremony. I'm helping a buddy, who is a videographer, do a wedding. He records in HD and asked me about recording in suround sound. Anything would help.
What about it do you want to know? Mic positioning in a ceremony to effectively utilize the format? The hardware involved? There's a large number of different things at work here.
Plus, I don't think you would care enough about the audio at a wedding to record it in 5.1 surround. Surround, as far as I'm concerned, is still relegated to large-budget movie making, as there isn't much of a boost in audio experience if you are just talking about two people at the alter saying their vows, and then cutting to shots of drunken friends and family slobbering out best wishes to the bride and groom.
If he wants to go 5.1, all the luck in the world, but you would need stationary mics in various places to record - you couldn't record in surround from the focal point of the camera, moving around
OH i know its ridiculous, its only to stay competitive. Others starting to offer HD wedding recordings advertise 5.1 sound. I just wanted input. What we originally intended to do was record as we normally do. By that we have wl lav mics on the alter. usually we patch into the sound board for anyone talking. But other then that we could use anything metioned because of a friend in the AV biz.
