When I'm recording my vocals--most of my frequencies are in the mid yellow to green range -12 to -8 (hip hop/ rapping) My gain on my Mbox mini is a little over 1/2 to 3/4 turned up. But when I get done and listen to it I can barely here it over my beat. I always have to turn the volume down on my beat track--UP on my vocal track--Is this normal?

I would think I just have to go louder during my recordings but I'm already in the yellow dB as is

I have a MXL Genesis mic

It sounds like the levels on your voice recording are about right, perhaps even a bit high.

Are you using pre-recorded beat tracks which have already been mixed/mastered/compressed to within an inch of their lives? If so, it's perfectly normal to have to turn them down when mixing with a raw recording of a voice.
