mic question

I am sorry if this question is played out but, i have really crappy mics (nady starpower witch i got for money convenience) and I am just not getting the clean, crisp sound i am looking for. I am mainly recording "indy" sounding bands and myself. If it helps to have a band to model the sound off of i would say Modest Mouse is the music i am recording. So if any of you can help me out with getting a good, cheap set up of mics I would love you forever. By cheap i mean i want to spend the most 300 dollars on everything and i want a few mics(3 or 4).

Yo Virus, welcome to the board. Yeah, it's played out, and nigh unto impossible, also, but I will give you a minor reality check, and some cheap mic all stars. The tough part, really is a good kick drum mic. The rest is doable on your budget. Anyway, here's my best shot.-
Main vocals- Marshall MXL V67G- $85.00 new on ebay.
Guitar cabs/snare- Shure SM57- about $50 used on ebay.
Overheads/acoustic guitar- A pair of Oktava MC012's- $100 the pair at Guitar Center, but may be discontinued and selling out fast.
Toms/some vocals/all purpose cheap condenser- Studio Projects B-1 $80 at 8th street.com.
Unfortunately, that wipes out your $300. For bass, you need a decent DI box, such as a countryman DI- $150 at zZounds. And you still need a kick mic. Unfortunately, good ones are almost $200 new, but spook around on ebay looking for AKG D112 or Audix D-6. Those are my best bets, but entire bands with a $300 mic cabinet is not really realistic.-Richie
 
thanks, that helped a lot. I realize that is horribly unrealistic now.... but I will prolly be able to get a little more money to finish off the complete set and if i cant get enough i will just get half now half later..... thanks again
