i need to know which mics to get to go with my recorder. i don't have much money at all to spend on them, and i want to get the most bang for my buck. i'm in a metal band, and we're recording our stuff. how many mics do i need, and what kind? just tell me your suggestions.

Multitracking? Live stereo mix?

Lots of variable. A couple SM57's and a Studio Projects Condensor would be a decent start

i'm using a Fostex VF80EX, and multi-track recording

This has been covered lots dude. Everytime people ask we need to know more info than you've given. We need to know exactly what you're trying to do, what equipment you have, the budget you have and the end result you want to achieve.

i have the recorder i mentioned above, and that's about it right now, nothing else, i just got started with this stuff. i want to record a demo album for my band, so we can start getting our music out there. i have like 200-250 dollars to spend on mics right now. if you need any other info just ask.

ive heard these mics are cheap, but excelent quality, and tough. They sound much like an sm-57, which is your workhorse mic for recording. use these for miking guitar amps, bass amps, toms, snare, bass amp, and bass drum.

As for your vocals you will want a pretty good quality condenser. i'd go for something like this.

Yes, these are all economic solutions to your problem to fit your budget so this is not the top of the line stuff, but it is equiptment thats not gonna let you down and unless your recording in an actual studio, you might not hear many of the big differences between these mics and higher priced ones. Have fun and good luck!

i suggest strongly against it. save up a bit more and get something like the sm 57's and 58's there fairly cheep but can do just about everything.

Hmm... thanks. I was just curious. I'm not planning on buying any mics in the near future.
