So I was looking to go get a few microphones to start my own little home studio on my computer, and I had a few questions.
I have read as many threads as I can find on here and I think I am going to try and get the 2 oktava MK012 for my acoustic guitar and then get the Shure SM57 for vocals and miscelaneous other stuff (trombone and saxophone etc.) I plan on buying the M-Audio Firewire 410 which has phantom power so that should be cool.

Anyways if thats a bad idea at all (or if there are better mikes for the job), I'd appreciate knowing.

What I really wanted to ask however, is what should I look to pay for these.
I have read that Guitar Center has sold the oktavas for 2 for 99 in the last month, and lately people have been able to haggle their way down to 110 or 120.

Then for the Shure mikes, I went to Guitar Center today and they were selling them for 89 dollars. That seems high from what I have read on this board, am I right?

Also if you guys have any tips on haggling, I'd love to hear them. I plan on buying a lot of equipment all at once (is that better or worse). My problem however is since I don't look old or professional (I'm 22 and I dont look poor but not rich either), they don't really take me seriously I feel like.

Anyways any haggling tips would be appreciated.

All of that is a mess up there so sorry, but any help with any issue would be appreciated. Thanks

Im an expert at this..as I havent yet paid full price for any gear I own.

1. Act like you have seen a better deal elsewhere.

2. dont act like you really want the stuff.

GC will match any legitimate competitors price. Keep searching the internet until you find a lower price. Print the page and show it to them. You'll get a discount.
Otherwise, just tell them what you are willing to pay. If there is enough margin in it they may lower the price by a couple of bucks.
On mics of that price, there really isn't that much profit to be made. Remember, they have to pay their bills, too.

That's a good combo (57/Oktavas) for a starter kit. I wouldn't pay any more than $79 for the 57.

Exactly my sentiments.

I've spent enough time in sales positions trying to make quota and it's rough -- especially in this piece of shit economy. I can only imagine what it must be like trying to eak out the kind of living those GC guys are trying to get by on.

I figure I can at least afford to pay the extra 10 bucks. Quit being a bunch of tight wads. :D I'll bet you guys don't even tip 15% at the bar.

Only when there are women in my vicinity :D

The bar should pay the damn bar tenders. The resturaunt should pay the damn waiters, and people should park their own damn cars.

Now for bargining the prices down at GC.............I have been able to do that. The new one they put up is an absolute "NO". Which sucks because at the other ones I just befriend a salesman or two......no more than ONE per department......and hook that person up each time I go in. So basically, they might not get the whole commission on each item, but over time, they get more money because I won't buy from anyone else. It seems to work for me.

I actually have a funny story about how I got my hookups.........

So I was going to buy a ProCo Rat and I was telling my friend on the way their about how when he buys his next guitar he has to bargin. He didn't believe me, so i told him I could bargin anything down. Well, that Rat pedal was $60 I believe, maybe $55....but that is imaterial really......

So I was like, "hey whats the best deal I can get on this?"

The guy said thats it. I said whatever was 10 bucks less....he said man.....I can't do that, I can eat the tax (I swear...."eat the tax" must be taught at GC school:D)......so said how much is that .... he said whatever it was and said no....and so I offered a price that was "out the door" 5 bucks below the stickerprice. He said, "I am not allowed to do that". So I said fine. I'll buy it from someone else. So he says...."fiiinnnnnnneeeeeeee......" And I said no. You just said you can't sell it for that. Now I need a pack of those Dunlop picks. He says WTF!??! I said don't lie to me. He says whatever man and puts them in the damn battery compartment. :D
