can anyone tell me what the mic pres are like in the Behringer Eurorack UB1204FX-PRO? Im trying to experiment with some different mic pres... also, whats are good mic pre under $300?
those mic pre's are usable, but in the grand scheme of things they are utter crap..... do a search for behringer and mic pre's and you'll find alot of info and opinions.
also there have been a lot of threads about the best mic pre within a certain budget. again use the search button and you'll be amazed with the results.
haha well ive been using cheap crap for a while now... ive been using the behringer mic200 and thats all ive ever used so i dont know a good mic pre when i hear one... will the DMP-3 be an improvement?
The DMP3 is a solid state pre. Almost anything tubed in that price range will actually be a "toob" preamp. These are starved plate designs that hardly send any voltage at all to the tubes, and usually don't sound very good.
The exception is the new Electro-Harmonix preamp,(real tube design, not toob) which is suppposed to be AWESOME, according to the people on this board. Plus, its only $180. Not too shabby. It is the cheapest real tube preamp out there that I know of.
It's totally a matter of preference. There are tube (& toob) pres that sound good and ones that sound crappy. Same with S/S pres. Some are more warm/colored & some are not. IMO, in the cheap range, you are probably better off getting relatively clean pres and getting a few different microphones to give you a range of "colors."
