Can someone please tell me what a Mic Preamp/Voice Processor will do for me. I do alot of solo acoustic. Is this something I should look into getting??
Thanks in Advance!
the voice processor is probably built into the preamp, like a behringer, or else they are two seperate units. The preamp will boost your mic signal, and give it warmth. But the vocal processor can add things like chorus, filters, etc. If you are going computer based, I would say to just go with a preamp, then add effects later, but if you are staying in a standalone multitracker, the processer might be something to look into.
Need to know what mic/mics you're using and onto what. For example, if you're using a computer you may find most of the post-pre processing (mouthful!) you want can be done in the box, and to a higher quality level than a cheap piece of gear.
I'd suggest reading the mic FAQ for some preamp suggestions.
In other words, don't say warmth unless you are talking about a plutonic relationship with a used car salesman (not that there's anything wrong with it)

A preamp brings mic level and instrument level signals up to line level so the signal can be used by other electronic gear. You should buy the best microphones and the best preamp you can afford.
IMO the items in the recording signal chain, in order of importance, are:
The player
The instrument
The mic
The preamp
The AD converter (soundcard for computer-based setups)
The recording medium (computer, cassette, mini disc, etc.)
Effects are the last thing I worry about, although they are important.
The monitoring signal chain, equally important, is another topic.
