Need phantom power for condenser mic... and that vocal sound from XTC's Easter Theatre track!!! ANy suggestions?!?

Budget

Trying to spend <$150 (I only have the one mic needing 48v... for now.) But really just want something to get "that" sound. I've heard good things about the Presonus stuff, and bad about the Art, Behringer, and Bellari stuff. So many to choose from and nowhere for me to try them locally.

Why not ask Andy Patridge what he used?

Seriously, I'm sure the pre(s) used on the vocals on that recording was(were) excellent, but it's more about the voice(s) and how you apply effects that gets the particular sound. As long as the pre is reasonably clear and clean, you can get a track that you can work with. No pre can make up for a poor voice, bad mic technique, inept use of effects, bad mixing, or any of the above. If all those things are in place, you can make it happen with nearly any pre (within reason).

the new ART stuff is nice. the tps and dps preamps. and they have a new version of the studio mp with v3 that isn't shipping yet but i can get one.

behringer... if you got a behringer preamp, i'd look at the higher end ones but they are $300+

bellari..? i don't know much about

hoe about a Joe Meek... they sounds great... i have a presonus m20 over here right now, it sound pretty good, but i think they go for $400+

i'd get the joe meek or the the new art stuff over anything else in the 100-150 range...
