Mic Preamp I'm lost

The more I read on preamps The more my head hurts.
I'm running out of time and need to make up my mind this week.
the preamps I'm looking at are
Behringer MIC2200Ultragain PRO, Behringer MIC200, BEHRINGER SHARK DSP110, dbx Mini-Pre Tube Mic preamp, (I need to also have Phantom Power so I want to kill 2 birds with one stone and get both in one unit).

I have 8 Mic's the 2 I will be using are
Electro-Voice RE10 for the 70's RCA Elvis sound.
and a SP B1
recordering on my Fostex DML 8vl
zoom 1001 FX

I'm told one thing by one person and another by some else.
each Time I pick a preamp I find a very bad review.
most of the time the good review out number the bad.
I'm stuck on the bad reviews.
I have a very small $100 Buget or so.

The reason there is because either one of two things.

1: there is a lot of super nice gear out there and even the budget stuff is still a useable decent preamp.

2: The people writing the reviews are in the back pocket of the company that the review is being written for.

I like checking message boards because, for the most part, you can cut through the crap and see what someone really thinks. Bad thing there is that the person that is saying it is awesome may know squat and so that kinda negats that review...
 
M-Audio Audio Buddy; under a hundred bucks, two channels, phantom power, does the job, no gimmicks.
 
Ugh, I don't like the Audio Buddy. Poor roustabout, his head is going to hurt some more.

It's really hard to find anything worthwhile under $100. If you need one channel, I'd say consider the Presonus TubePRE. Two channels, maybe you'll have to go with that Audio Buddy, or Behringer. It really doesn't matter, they are all going to be approximately the same quality at that price range. So just get the one with the features you need.

For a little more (around $125-150) take a look at the Studio Projects VTB-1 or the Rane MS-1b. Single channel preamps, but already a jump up in quality from the under $100 units.

My head still hurts But I see a end to my pain.
I think I have it down to I'm down to Studio Projects VTB-1, Audio Buddy and BEHRINGER SHARK DSP110.

I bid on audio buddy on ebay this morning But not sure I want to win the bid!!
If my bid is to low, it'll be The Studio Projects VTB-1 .
If I don't make any money at this fridays show it will be or the BEHRINGER SHARK DSP110.

If you're down to those three, I'd pick the SP VTB-1 in a heartbeat. I read your post as needing a two channel preamp. If you're after one at a time, you're in luck.
 
i guess i just wanted to add that i don't know a ton about pre's besides they are a very important part of the signal chain and not to be overlooked. however, I would hold off on the M-Audio, buddy. m-audio is ok, i have their oxygen 8 midi controller--it's fine. but there's a quality issue with them i've been hearing from friends who have used their non-midi gear like monitors, etc. also, i'd echo the previous recommendation for the Presonus bluetube thing. i have experience with that and it is a very respectable pre, gets pretty hot, but whatever...that's where my knowledge ends. I know the ART tube PRE, that small thing, is ok. I've always thought ART is a respectable manufacturer. until then, you can find me spanking it to pictures of summits, focusrite reds, manleys, and avalons

Thank you all for all your Input.
I ended up with a Audio Buddy, Not by choice !
I put a bid on the wrong thing on Ebay.
By the time I looked at the page , I bought a Audio Buddy.
It has my Phatom power. and seems to have a nice clean sound.
I learned from the whole thing. Don't help your Daughter with her computer Problem at the same time you on ebay.
here the 4 things I now know

1 look what you are bidding on in Ebay.
2 check what you bid on after placing the bid.
3 Music sound is up to the listener.
4 Dad was right kids are pains
