Mic Pre or Mic

My board is a Sound Craft Ghost, 24 chnl. I use Alesis Xt's and good quality outboard equip. My vocal mic is a Audio-Technica 4050/cm5. What quality mic pre should I get to get a clean, transparrent sound? Or, should I look at a higher quality mic?

The At4050 is already a good quality mic, the only reason to change would be personal preference for a different sounding mic.

Im in no way an expert but when i got a DMP3 pres to use instead of my dodgy mixer pres... the improvements were huge... every mic i used sounded more lively

so if u think ur pre's are hodling u back.. it probably is not worth upgrading mics as ur pres will just render them crap ANYWAY..
